About the role
Reporting to the Chief Insurance Officer, this role is responsible for the end-to-end performance of our travel insurance portfolio, driving profitability, margin outcomes, and sustainable growth across a multi-brand, multi-partner environment. You will oversee portfolio performance, identify emerging risks and opportunities, and ensure timely actions are taken to optimise commercial outcomes.
Working closely with the Lead Actuary, Head of Product, and key business stakeholders, you will translate portfolio insights into pricing, underwriting, product, and partner strategies. This is a highly visible role that combines analytical rigour with commercial leadership, offering the opportunity to directly influence portfolio performance and shape the future direction of the business.
What the role looks like
· Own the performance of the travel insurance portfolio, leading regular reviews to identify trends, risks, opportunities, and actions that drive sustainable profitability.
· Develop and maintain early warning indicators across claims, customer segments, channels, products, and geographies to proactively manage portfolio performance.
· Partner with Pricing, Underwriting, and Product teams to translate portfolio insights into pricing, underwriting, and product changes that improve outcomes.
· Work closely with Claims teams to identify drivers of loss ratio performance and implement targeted actions to improve customer and commercial results.
· Lead insurer and partner performance discussions, providing clear reporting, portfolio insights, and recommendations to support strong relationships and confidence.
· Collaborate with stakeholders across Commercial, Product, Claims, Operations, Risk, Legal, and Compliance to align portfolio strategy with business objectives and risk appetite.
· Drive portfolio governance, performance reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring clear accountability, strong decision-making, and effective risk management.
What you’ll bring
· 8+ years' experience in portfolio management, underwriting, pricing, or analytics within general insurance, with travel insurance experience highly regarded.
· Strong analytical and commercial acumen, with the ability to translate data and technical insights into actionable business decisions.
· Proven experience managing portfolio performance and delivering profitability and growth outcomes in insurer and partner-led environments.
· Advanced Excel skills, with exposure to SQL, Python, R, or other analytical and reporting tools desirable.
· Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with confidence presenting insights and recommendations to senior leaders and external partners.
· Tertiary qualification in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline; actuarial qualifications or progress towards qualification will be highly regarded.
· A collaborative and accountable approach, with behaviours aligned to our WeCare values, including sound judgement, clear communication, and a focus on delivering results.
