About the role
Join a pivotal finance role supporting the delivery of high-quality insurance accounting across New Zealand within a dynamic ANZ environment. As Insurance Accountant, you will lead the end-to-end management of insurance accounting activities, ensuring compliance with local regulatory and reporting requirements while delivering accurate and insightful financial outcomes for key stakeholders.
Working within a complex international organisation, you will apply your technical insurance accounting expertise to support premiums, commissions, claims and technical reserves, while contributing to major transformation initiatives including legal entity changes and the implementation of a new accounting platform. This is an exciting opportunity to influence critical reporting outcomes and partner with senior stakeholders across finance and the business.
What the role looks like
· Lead the month-end, quarter-end and year-end close processes for Australia and New Zealand, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
· Deliver high-quality financial statements, balance sheet reconciliations and regulatory reporting while maintaining compliance with IFRS and local statutory requirements.
· Partner with stakeholders across Finance, Actuarial, Tax, Operations and Technology to resolve accounting issues and improve reporting outcomes.
· Support cash flow forecasting, tax reporting, audit activities and internal controls to ensure strong financial governance and compliance.
· Drive finance transformation initiatives, including process improvements, automation opportunities and system enhancements.
· Play a key role in the transition from Microsoft Business Central to SAP S/4HANA, supporting testing, implementation and business readiness activities.
· Provide technical accounting expertise and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen reporting accuracy, controls and operational efficiency.
What you’ll bring
· CA/CPA qualified with proven experience in insurance accounting, financial reporting, audit, or a related finance environment.
· Strong technical knowledge of insurance accounting standards, including IFRS 17 and IFRS 4, with the ability to apply complex accounting concepts in practice.
· Experience delivering statutory and group reporting within a well-controlled and regulated environment.
· Strong systems capability, including ERP and reporting platforms, with exposure to finance transformation or SAP S/4HANA projects highly regarded.
· Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex financial information into actionable insights.
· Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the confidence to build trusted relationships across Finance, Actuarial, Operations, Tax and Technology teams.
· A proactive, collaborative and continuous improvement mindset, combined with high levels of integrity, accountability and professional judgement.
