About the role
Join our ANZ Finance team as an Insurance Accountant, where you will play a key role in managing and delivering high quality insurance accounting outcomes for our New Zealand business. Operating in a dual-country environment across Australia and New Zealand, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with local regulatory and accounting requirements, providing technical accounting expertise, and partnering with a broad range of stakeholders across the organisation.
This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a significant period of transformation, supporting the implementation of insurance technical accounting processes covering premiums, commissions, claims, and technical reserves. You will also play a critical role in meeting New Zealand's standalone reporting requirements and supporting major initiatives, including our legal entity framework transformation and the rollout of an enhanced accounting platform.
What the role looks like
· Lead the preparation, review, and delivery of capital calculations, Capital Plans, and ICAAP reporting across Australia and New Zealand.
· Perform capital stress testing, sensitivity analysis, and scenario modelling to support effective risk management and regulatory compliance.
· Partner with APRA, RBNZ, Group Finance, and Group Risk teams to coordinate capital reporting, regulatory submissions, and governance requirements.
· Analyse capital performance, key drivers, and emerging trends to provide actionable insights for senior leadership and strategic decision-making.
· Support Recovery Planning activities, including scenario development, documentation, and reporting to management and Board stakeholders.
· Contribute to the enhancement of capital models, systems, controls, and reporting frameworks, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.
· Play an active role in finance transformation initiatives and cross-functional projects, collaborating with Finance, Risk, Actuarial, and Group teams to deliver business outcomes.
What you’ll bring
· Proven experience in insurance accounting, finance, capital management, or regulatory reporting within the insurance or financial services industry.
· Strong technical knowledge of insurance accounting principles, including IFRS 17 and key insurance balance sheet components such as premiums, claims, commissions, and reserves.
· Ability to interpret complex regulatory requirements and deliver accurate, high-quality financial and capital reporting outcomes.
· Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate data into meaningful insights and recommendations.
· Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the confidence to build relationships across Finance, Risk, Actuarial, and senior leadership teams.
· Experience supporting finance transformation initiatives, system implementations, process improvements, or testing activities will be highly regarded.
· A collaborative, proactive, and solutions-focused approach, combined with strong professional judgement, accountability, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
